Phospholipids (PL) retard and cholesterol (chol) promotes the formation of tumours induced by carcinogenic hydrocarbons.

چکیده
Not less than 20 — 25 years ago, D ick en s and W e il M a lh e r b e 1> 2 discovered that PL retard, whereas Choi promotes the formation of tumours induced by 3.4benzpyrene. For unexplainable reasons this remarkable finding of utmost importance was never commented in the literature (see, however, A ltm an 3 _6 ) . It should be emphasized that it concerns here with the fact that two very common groups of lipids, representing most familiar components of whatever animal cell. i. c. cell membrane 7_20, are positively capable to influence the still incognito mechanism of carcinogenesis.

Negative results of attempts to prolong the effect of phospholipids (PL) and cholesterol (Chol) on the formation fo tumours induced by 3-methyl-cholanthrene (MeC).
It was formerly demonstrated that PL retard and Choi accelerates the formation of tumours induced by M e C 2. This retardation respectively acceleration, however, never surpassed a period of somewhat more than four weeks. The question, then, arose why PL are only capable to retard temporarily and not to pre vent, i. e. retard permanently, the formation of tu mours. It was presumed that the ad...

Proton NMR spectroscopic investigations on the lipid extract of the serum of 41 Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) (age, mean +/- SD; 8.0 +/- 3.0 years) patients and 22 healthy subjects (age, mean +/- SD; 9.0 +/- 4.0 years) were performed in the northern Indian population. The concentration of triglycerides, phospholipids, free cholesterol, cholesterol esters and total cholesterol was significan...
متن کاملInsight into the putative specific interactions between cholesterol, sphingomyelin, and palmitoyl-oleoyl phosphatidylcholine.
The effects of cholesterol (Chol) on phospholipid bilayers include ordering of the fatty acyl chains, condensing of the lipids in the bilayer plane, and promotion of the liquid-ordered phase. These effects depend on the type of phospholipids in the bilayer and are determined by the nature of the underlying molecular interactions. As for Chol, it has been shown to interact more favorably with sp...
متن کاملSimulation of the early stages of nano-domain formation in mixed bilayers of sphingomyelin, cholesterol, and dioleylphosphatidylcholine.
It is known from experimental studies that lipid bilayers composed of unsaturated phospholipids, sphingomyelin, and cholesterol contain microdomains rich in sphingomyelin and cholesterol. These domains are similar to "rafts" isolated from cell membranes, although the latter are much smaller in lateral size. Such domain formation can be a result of very specific and subtle lipid-lipid interactio...
متن کاملEffects of cholesterol in chylomicron remnant models of lipid emulsions on apoE-mediated uptake and cytotoxicity of macrophages.
Chylomicron remnants have been suggested to be involved in the development of atherosclerosis. To investigate the mechanisms of chylomicron remnant-induced atherosclerosis, we prepared cholesterol (Chol)-containing emulsion particles as models for chylomicron remnants. Chol markedly increased the apolipoprotein E (apoE) binding maximum of emulsions without changing the binding affinity and ther...
